Griffin Church, LMSW (he/him)
Hi, I’m Griffin!
I have several qualities that I believe lend themselves well to my work as a therapist.
The first is a sort of fascination with what might be called taboo, or possibly just “intensity.” I have a lot of presence for matters that sting of shame and keep us alone.
The second is some blend of competitiveness and playfulness that expresses itself in the form of an immense appetite for figuring out the best–most effective, most discerning–way to do something.
Of course, I have not figured out the best way to help every couple who comes to my office relearn how to be tender with one another, nor aid every individual living under the thumb of fear in finding their way to steadiness, but I never tire of the project. I read research and books on psychology, neuroscience, love, fear, and human sexuality, and tinker my methods to see what might work better for my clients.
The third and last quality I’ll mention here is I try to be funny. By this I mean I have found that a lot of room to breathe is created by an appreciation of the absurdity of what we’re all doing here, smaller than specks in the universe, sometimes acting badly, sometimes courageously, watching soccer on TV, peeling an orange, trying to figure out what to do with our “one precious life.”

Individual Therapy
The Basics
Sessions are held virtually via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform (or phone by request) and are either 45 or 90 minutes long.
I see clients on a weekly basis (or occasionally more often if needed). I do not schedule appointments biweekly or monthly. You will have a reserved slot each week at the same day and time.
What to Expect
During our initial appointment, we will go over any questions you have, review intake forms and practice policies, and I will gather information about your history.
The next several appointments will be focused on getting to know each other. We will discuss the issues that are bringing you to counseling, and I will conduct assessments if necessary.
After that, the agenda for each of our sessions will be collaboratively set. Clients are encouraged to take initiative in the direction of our work, while I offer guidance and expertise.

Couples Therapy
The Basics
Sessions are held virtually via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform and are either 45 or 90 minutes long.
I see couples on a weekly basis (or occasionally more often if needed). I do not schedule appointments biweekly or monthly. You will have a reserved slot each week at the same day and time.
What to Expect
During our initial appointment, we will go over any questions you have, review intake forms and practice policies, and I will gather information about your relationship and history. Prepare yourself for a somewhat dry (to you) initial session. I need time to catch up!
The next several sessions will be focused on getting to know you as a couple and understanding your strengths and challenges. From there, we will collaboratively identify priority issues for our work, and discuss different approach options.
